Crash bags the Oscar for the best film this year, beating expectations, for everyone thought that the Oscar usually goes to films on bizzare relationships, triumph of human spirit against all odds, blah, blah and blah-blah.
Crash is genre busting; its an emotional, hardhitting, realistic, satirical, topical, and somewhat suspense film (tch tch…... its entertaining too). Wow, so much for 120 minutes of unconventional, Oscar worthy cinema!!!
The movie revolves around a bunch of characters who are directly or indirectly affected by racism - victims, victimizers and the third kind. A black man is murdered which leads to the theory of racial killing, which forms the main plot. Then there are sub plots which revolve around these characters, who belong to different ethinic backgrounds, whose lives are heavily influenced in some way or the other by racism. The chain of events unfolding the climax and how these people fight to overcome the demons inside them makes this cinema worthy of a million accolades. Watch Crash for its mindblowing screenplay and brilliant performances by its ensemble cast.
In a glittering Oscar ceremony, Jack Nicholson gave away the award for Crash with a smirk. Ladies and gentlemen, the foolproof formula for bagging an Oscar has just been busted.
